There is a very interesting post this morning on the “Baie-D’Urfé Notre Ville/Our Town” facebook group from a citizen who is commenting further on the recent land purchase on the lakeshore. Very much worth reading … if you are a member of the group please check it out, if not we will post here once we get permission from the author.
Anyway, one of the major reasons given by the council for spending $1.45M on the property was the presence of a main drainage pipe into the lake for which the town does not have a servitude. They stated a need to have control over the pipe in case of service access, blockage, leakage etc. That sounds fairly reasonable until you realize (see the FB article referred to) that there are quite a number of other, similar pipes in the town. All leading across private, multi-million dollar, properties to empty into the lake. Ask yourselves – does the town have servitudes for all of those? What happens if they need repair or servicing – will the town be held to ransom by the landowners? What was so special about the pipe on the land we have so expensively purchased?
When candidates for the election knock on your door why not ask them about this? If they are running on the “Équipe Baie-D’Urfé Team” ticket they are almost all incumbent councillors who voted for the land purchase so they ought to have the answers.
